Merchant Machine Tool was founded in 1952 by Elroy Merchant Sr. Elroy sold the company in 1970 and George Merchant Sr. purchased a portion of the assets. George Merchant Sr. started Merchants Automatic Products (MAPCO) in 1971 as a family-owned operation in a rented 2,000-square-foot facility with only a handful of employees. In 1974, MAPCO moved into a larger facility of its own and eventually grew to over 30 employees.

MAPCO's current owner, George Merchant II, began working with his father when he was 15 years old. In 1987, he would become the third-generation owner of the business.

Today, MAPCO owns a 30,000 square-foot facility, employs more than 50 people, and operates some of the most sophisticated machine tools in the world. We continue to grow, with advancements in machining, ongoing training, and a commitment to quality by every employee. But through all the changes, our philosophy remains the same as it did in 1952: do whatever it takes to get the job done right .
